A Place For Time

New Work by Alan Keane
From Thursday 11 April to Sunday 12 May 2002
Glór - Centre for Music Heritage and Art, Ennis Co Clare.

Alan Keane's stunning exhibition will be opened on Friday, April 12th at 6.30pm by Clare FM presenter Cormac McConnell. The exhibition will run to Saturday, May 18th.

The paintings on exhibit deal with the creative process of painting, fusing ink, oil and acrylic to reveal coloured textures and layered surfaces of shimmering suede/velvet like finishes. The title "A Place For Time" relates to Alan's wish that the viewer take time to look longer and closer at the paintings in order to uncover the subtle and vibrant intricacies of each painting, and thus trigger their imaginations to make associations.

The exhibition focuses on looking at nature, sea, light, shore, land and the traces and patterns of elements on a particular patch of land or watermass. Although abstract at first glance, a closer inspection reveals almost microscopic qualities such as ice melting, under sea light, petals falling, forests breeding all rendered in an almost organic matter.

The majority of work on view was produced during a year long residency at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Alan has exhibited widely including Dublin, London, Belfast, Cork and Lithuania. Alan has been in receipt of many awards including travel awards to Spain and the Baltic states. His paintings are in private and public collections both at home and abroad.

Glór Gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5.30pm. A Place for Time opens on Friday, April 12th and runs to Saturday, May 18th. Admission is free.
